I feel extremely privileged to have learned so much more about Sensei Ogasawara’s life through this beautifully written memoir. The book’s co-writer, Nancy Triggani employs imagery so vivid that her words will transport you from a remote village in Japan in the 1950s to a small town New Jersey in the 1980s. Triggani is able to conjure up rich memories of Ogasawara’s past to retell the stories of his fascinating life; these stories will no doubt make you laugh and cry. I’d highly recommend this read to any Judoka, martial artist, or anyone just interested in learning about a life well lived.
